While reading Blood I was aware of the rhythm, the sense of timing, the pacing. It was neither visual nor audible, but I felt it like a heartbeat, sometimes pounding and slow and sometimes racing like that of a runner sprinting toward the finish line. Scared the hell out of me - and I didn't want Squeaky to die although I knew he would.

"Blood" is a HOT read!
Like a miner shining his torch on the mother lode, Remick exposes carnage of the inner and outer worlds of Mitch, a sociopath imprisoned in his labyrinthine mindcave. I was mesmerized by the psychological and poetic fugues flowing through the arteries of "Blood." The sinuous currents propelled me ever deeper, probing into Mitch's haunting inferno. I loved the excursion!

Dear Jack:
Thanks for sharing your process so openly; I know you've spent years discovering it and it is very helpful to have your footsteps to follow up the mountain.
Winfield.

Hi Jack, this is good. A clear way of going about the start process. Thank you. I've been thinking about my TGAN idea when I go for coffee every morning or afternoon. The first thing I started with (writing ideas down on the inside back cover of Bob's book!) was building a list of characters and backstories. I couldn't see any other way to start. I thought if I wrote a bit about each character's backstory and my feelings about that character, I'd have a better idea of what my core story will be. It's a dizzying jumble of ideas right now. Crazy as it is, I have the first opening line in my head. Sets the tone. Can't get rid of it and probably won't until I get some of the stories written. Well, I ain't no genius jack but I'm going to give it a go...the writing , that is.

I'm about 3/4 thru Blood. It feels like I'm closing in on the end of the Squeaky sublot but not sure. Am reading your book and Bob's simultaneously.
